This piece is a portrait of the Mau Mau Kenyan Land and Freedom Army revolutionary leader Dedan Kimathi shortly after he was shot and captured by the British colonial forces after evading pursuit in 1956. I was inspired to draw his portrait after seeing in his eyes both the determination and will to repeat his acts regardless of his capture and impending sentence to death.
