SCE Burned My City Down and All I Got Out of It Was Mima’s Pans and a Dirt Lot, 2025
Gesso, Dirt from My Lot, and Acrylic on Found Canvas, 40 in. x 30 in.
Prior to the demolition of our home after it was decimated by the Eaton Fire, the Army Corp of Engineers asked my family if there was anything that we wanted them to attempt to find and recover from the rubble. We were sure that everything that was valuable was destroyed but asked if it would be possible for them to find my grandmother’s cast iron pans. These pans were passed down generationally from her mother and had been used almost weekly to feed my family. It just so happens that these pans were actually the only things that they were able to recover along with a large, old milk can that we used to store canes and umbrellas in.
