Static, First Iteration, 2023
Acrylic and Ink on Canvas, 16 in x 12 in
This series of paintings is based on a recurring childhood nightmare that I never really resolved the meaning of until I processed it in adulthood. The dream would begin with me awakening in a room that was completely white from floor to ceiling along with any furniture or fixtures included in the room. From the right hand corner of the room, an odd static would begin to grow like an organism that gradually consumed the room and everything in it. Once the static would reach my feet and touch me, Iād wake up right away each time. Painting this series in a different medium and at a different point of time in the dream multiple times over has definitely helped me process this dream and the feelings of anxiety and overwhelm associated with it.
