Superstition Steam, 2022
Watercolor, 9 in x 6 in
This piece was inspired by my many, many roadtrips back and forth between Arizona and Southern California to visit my sister. Traveling the route throughout all seasons of the year really helped me develop a love of the landscape, foliage, wildlife, and colorful skies in the desert. On one of these drives home from Arizona early in the frigid morning, we passed a farm that had a structure on it emanating steam. The surrounding air was so cold and dry that that it essentially trapped the steam in place like a static cloud rising out of a chasm in the earth.
